Can I Charge My Acer Aspire 1 Netbook With a USB Cord?

You can't charge the Acer Aspire One -- a netbook that Taiwanese computer technology company Acer introduced in 2008 -- with a USB cable. That task goes to the computer's AC power adapter, which is responsible for charging its battery.

  1. Adapter

    • The adapter that comes with the Acer Aspire One has an input that consists of a voltage range of 100 to 240 volts, an electrical current of up to around 1.6 amps and line frequency range of 50 to 60 hertz. Its wattage is rated at 65 watts.

    Battery

    • Depending on the model, the Acer Aspire One comes with a 3-cell or 6-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The 3-cell battery is available in 2.2 amp-hours, 2.4Ah, 2.7Ah and 2.9Ah, while the 6-cell battery is available in 4.4Ah, 5.2Ah and 6.6Ah. The 6-cell battery provides the longer battery life, with up to around eight hours.

    USB and Other Connectors

    • Even though you can't use a USB cord to charge the battery of the Acer Aspire One -- or the laptop, period -- its lone USB 2.0 port can be used for data transfer, connecting USB-compatible devices such as printers and digital media players. Other Aspire One external interfaces include line-in/microphone and line-out/headphone jacks, RJ-45 jack for wired Internet access and Video Graphics Array port for hooking up an external monitor display.

    General Specs

    • Designed with a 10.1-inch LED backlit screen that provides a native resolution of 1,024 by 600 pixels, the Acer Aspire One runs on the Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system. Other common features of the netbook include an Intel Atom processor and Intel Graphics Media Accelerator processor for its video and graphics capabilities.
