Waxing is the removal of hair by applying hot wax to the skin and then ripping the wax off along with the trapped hair at the root. As all of the hair is removed it leaves the skin feeling smoother than other forms of hair removal. Eyebrow waxing is a widely used to remove unwanted eyebrow hairs, but as with all beauty treatments it comes with advantages and disadvantages.

Comfort

The difference of waxing in comparison to other forms of hair removal such as shaving and the use of hair removal creams is that it leaves the skin feeling smoother and softer once the waxing is finished. This is because the hair is removed at the follicle and is not cut as it is during shaving, which can leave sharp, uncomfortable edges. If waxing is used frequently, the regrown hairs become softer, thinner and sparser.

Time Saving

Although waxing may require you to go to a beauty salon, it should take the technician only 15 minutes or less to wax your eyebrows. The results should last three to four weeks. This compares to tweezing, which has to be done on a more regular basis and takes a lot longer, as every hair has to be removed individually.

Problems and Dangers

Putting hot wax above your eye isn't the safest thing you can do. Adverse side effects include redness to the skin or red bumps around the eye. Waxing can also lead to blood patches, as it sometimes detaches the top layer of skin in addition to the hair. In addition to all of these, waxing can also lead to ingrown hairs if the hair breaks at the follicle. This can lead to infection and abscesses.

Cost

Unlike using tweezers and plucking your eyebrows at home, waxing normally involves a trip to the beauty salon. Given that the cost of an eyebrow wax can be around $15 upwards and needs to be done every three to four weeks, it can end up being a expensive luxury for many people.
