A peacock costume and makeup should be a feathery fantasy.

Whether you're going to a costume party or a Halloween bash, a peacock costume, replete with over-the-top makeup, makes a bold statement and focuses attention on you. Don't be shy; in the natural world, a peacock's dazzling display screams "look at me!" and, if you choose this costume, your makeup should too. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Makeup

    • Choose bold, bright makeup, preferably in the iridescent colors of a peacock's feather: teal, green, gold and electric blue. There are no rules -- you can choose gold eyeshadow and blue lipstick, if you like. You're going for a bold, almost shocking look, so experiment with several colors and textures to see which one works best with your complexion and your costume.

    Technique

    • With this look, you should go with big, bright eyes and lips. Outline your eyes heavily in a bright peacock color such as teal or green. For a softer look, blend two iridescent shadows together, fading one into another from the lash line to the brow bone. If you want to simulate the look of a real peacock feather, draw faint, feathery lines from your lash line up to your brow bone. Use an unexpected color on your lips, and make it bright, such as an electric blue or a dark wine to complement the blues and golds of your eyeshadow.

    Design

    • If you want to adopt an exotic look, have a friend draw the eye of a peacock feather on your forehead or cheeks with eyeliner and iridescent shadow. Alternatively, make heavy use of your eyeliner stick, and draw the line well past the outer edge of your eye. Curl the line up past your eyebrow and paste a small blue or green feather onto the end. If you're feeling very daring, paste small, bright feathers over your eyebrow line. You might set your peacock makeup by spraying your face with blue, green or gold glitter, and don't forget your neck and shoulders.

    Accessories

    • Enhance your peacock makeup with peacock feather earrings, a peacock feather headdress or one or two peacock feathers strategically placed in your hair. A Spanish comb set in your hair simulates the look of a peacock's crown. If you can find one, a peacock fan makes an especially dramatic accessory. If you can't, a green or blue feather boa makes a nice substitute. You may cover your costume with peacock feathers or teal or green sequins to complete the look.
