The classic vampire look stems from the Gothic literature of the late 19th century, most notably from Bram Stoker's novel, "Dracula." For a man looking to achieve this classic look, wear a tuxedo with tails or black dress pants and a white dress shirt with a high collar. Over that wear a long black cape, preferably with a red satin interior. A woman should wear a long black dress with flowing sleeves and a flowing skirt. Men should slick their hair back and women should wear their hair long and straight, or wear a long black wig.

Another type of vampire from the Victorian Gothic period has been made famous in books such as "The Vampire Lestat" by Anne Rice. These vampires lived in the same era as the Dracula character, but are described as being far more chic in their fashion choices. Men interested in this look can wear black dress pants and a white dress shirt with billowy sleeves and a stand-up collar. Over the shirt wear a brocade vest and a long velvet jacket. Women wear long silk or velvet flowing dresses or skirts with satin lace-up corsets.

Women, wear mini-skirts with calf or knee-high black leather boots, crop tops or tank tops. Both men and women, wear black leather wristbands or necklaces with silver spikes and glitter all over.

People can wear certain common accessories no matter what style of vampire they choose to dress as. Pointed fang teeth are necessary to complete any vampire look. Purchase fangs at a costume shop that simply stick on to cover the two fanged teeth, as opposed to old fashioned sets of teeth that filled the whole mouth and did not stay in. Both men and women should wear foundation or pancake makeup that is a couple shades lighter than their natural skin tone and black eyeliner beneath their eyes to make them appear more dramatic.
