10 Steps to Escape the Paycheck to Paycheck Cycle
Many people seem to struggle with money, regardless of how much they make. They have the tendency to spend their entire paycheck rather than saving some until the next paycheck. As a result, many people feel they can never get ahead. They never have extra money because their money runs out before the next paycheck. Fortunately, you can break the cycle and can learn how to stop living paycheck to paycheck.
-
Savings
-
Begin a savings account even if you can only save a little bit at a time. As your nest egg grows, you can tap into it in between paychecks until your finances become more stable. A savings account is also beneficial for unexpected emergencies.
Tracking
-
Track your income and expenses. You can't cure the problem until you know exactly where you stand.
-
Budgeting
-
Create a budget. Determine how much money you will spend based on your income and expenses.
Insurance
-
Evaluate your house and car insurance to determine if you can cut costs. Many times, you can raise the deductible to decrease your payment.
Credit Cards
-
Limit your use of credit cards or try to get the interest rates reduced. Monthly payments on credit cards can really add up.
Fees
-
Avoid unnecessary fees such as ATM or NSF fees. These fees are a waste of money and you can avoid them with proper planning.
Debts
-
Pay off debts as soon as possible. The more debt you pay off, the more money you have available each month.
Eating Out
-
Limit how often you eat out. Eating in restaurants is an easy habit to get into, but it can consume any extra money you may have.
Entertainment
-
Eliminate cable and other entertainment such as going to the movies. This is only a temporary solution until you have solved the problem.
Phone Services
-
Switch to VoIP phone services if you have landline phone service through your local phone company. You can save more than 30 percent on your phone bill. Some services like Skype are free.
