How to Enter Data Into an Excel Cell

Creating an electronic worksheet is as easy as typing. These steps work for Microsoft Excel 97.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Start Microsoft Excel and open the file you want to change.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the cell to which you want to add information.

  3. Step 3

    Enter the characters (numbers or letters) in the cell. The characters you are adding will appear in the cell and in the Formula Bar.

  4. Step 4

    Press the Enter key to accept the data. Your cursor will move to the cell below.

Tips & Warnings
  • To enter data in a series of cells, first highlight the cells. Without clicking or moving the cursor, type the data for the initial cell. Press Enter to accept the data and move to the next cell. You'll move from cell to cell in the highlighted area.
  • The Formula Bar is located between the tool bar and the column heads.

on 11/8/2009 when i am using ms exel the numbers are shows as comma style instead of points.
how do i change this set up.
