An indoor fort is something that everyone can build and enjoy. The materials are available in almost every household.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Clear an area around a sofa or bed.
Step2
Prop sturdy sofa cushions near the sofa or bed to form the walls of the fort. Use chairs, if necessary, to prop up the cushions.
Step3
Build the roof by draping sheets over the walls.
Step4
Put a smaller pillow on the floor between two upright sofa cushions to construct a window.
Step5
Create a door with the simple and elegant drape of a sheet or blanket. Or build a tunnel entrance by tilting cushions together.
Step6
Use a party noisemaker for the doorbell.
Step7
Use cushions, blankets and cardboard boxes to make furniture.

Tips & Warnings

  • To make a split-level fort, use a bed or couch for the upper level and the floor as the lower level. Or, build your fort on a bunk bed.
  • A small cooler is a useful item to have in your indoor fort. It's nice to have cool drinks and snacks at your fingertips to offer your guests.
  • Make sure your fort does not block halls and passageways.

on 7/27/2006 if you want to make a window, try to line up your sofa cushions in straight lines going up for the walls, then all you have to do is leave a gap in the middle of one of the lines of sofa cushions. To build on top of it, place a large cushion that would stick out of the lines in the rows of sofa cushions.

on 7/14/2006 You can add a stereo or use an old computer speaker and hook it up to a portable CD player for surround sound. I have tried and it is really cool.

on 3/14/2006 You can use chairs and drape blankets over it. Make doors out of the blankets and make a crack through it and you have a door. Make sure you have a other exit so you can get out for an emergency. Have food and drinks available. Pillows and blankets are used inside the fort as well, have a fun time and have fun with your friends and family.

on 12/30/2005 If you can, use a light-weight mattress to use for the roof of your fort. You can prop it up with sofa cushions. But make sure that you have enough room to sit up, because otherwise you will hit your head on it, and it will fall on you. I did this today, and it is so cool!!!
Also, create some "vents" by sticking pillows between the sofa cushion walls. Trust me, it helps.

on 11/22/2005 Build an escape tunnel, so that there are more exits in case of emergency. Always be sure to make a "self-destruct" lever for easy cleanup. Lastly, try not to use tape. It gets stuck on the blankets.

on 11/22/2005 Use a sheet to drap from the roof of your fort to make a "bedroom". This way you can have more than one room. Do this many times and you can have a large a spacious fort.
