An indoor fort is something that everyone can build and enjoy. The materials are available in almost every household.

From Quick Guide: Indoor Fort Building
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Clear an area around a sofa or bed.

  2. Step 2

Prop sturdy sofa cushions near the sofa or bed to form the walls of the fort. Use chairs, if necessary, to prop up the cushions.

  3. Step 3

Build the roof by draping sheets over the walls.

  4. Step 4

Put a smaller pillow on the floor between two upright sofa cushions to construct a window.

  5. Step 5

Create a door with the simple and elegant drape of a sheet or blanket. Or build a tunnel entrance by tilting cushions together.

  6. Step 6

Use a party noisemaker for the doorbell.

  7. Step 7

Use cushions, blankets and cardboard boxes to make furniture.

Tips & Warnings
  • To make a split-level fort, use a bed or couch for the upper level and the floor as the lower level. Or, build your fort on a bunk bed.
  • A small cooler is a useful item to have in your indoor fort. It's nice to have cool drinks and snacks at your fingertips to offer your guests.
  • Make sure your fort does not block halls and passageways.

on 10/18/2009 no way, a bed is much too short! You've gotta start with a few straight-backed chairs and get shorter as you go out! Good forts should take up entire rooms :)

But really, if you want to involve your bed, string some yarn from wall to wall over your bed and hang a sheet on it and build out from there :D
if you're a frequent fort maker, various hooks screwed into the walls can come in handy in a tight spot when you don't have room for weights on chairs and stuff

I totally agree with dekin1 that there should be an escape door...but I don't agree that there should be a TV! Forts are for stories and wars! heehee
(sorry if there's a double post...I just registered and I'm not sure if it sent my comment the first time or not)

on 4/10/2008 Three chamber fort, ideal for boaty and gbb. Use bed as main/upper level, chairs on left and right side with sheet covering bed across the chairs. Couch cushions to reinforce walls and make tunnel entrance. Use of tin can phone is a must, flashlight to see, bring food and drink also. If bored, try making up a game... be creative
