Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport is one of the busiest and fastest growing airports in the world, with more than 2,100 flights scheduled daily. If flight delays occur, travelers can pass the time eating and shopping in a wide variety of establishments in all four terminals. An automated interterminal airport train runs 24 hours a day.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Figure out how much free time you will have. Check to see whether your flight is late and whether it will arrive/depart in Terminal A, B, C or E.

  2. Step 2

Relax in any of more than 100 eateries throughout the four terminals, including fast-food kiosks, sit-down restaurants serving Texas-style food, cocktail lounges and snack bars.

  3. Step 3

Browse through specialty retail shops for western-theme gifts, Texas wine, one-of-a-kind artwork and designer merchandise. But keep recent airline carry-on restrictions in mind. You may have to check in your purchases with luggage or consider having large items mailed.

  4. Step 4

Spend some quiet time in chapels located in Terminals B, C and E.

  5. Step 5

Use airport courtesy phones for further information about services, dining or shopping sites.

Tips & Warnings
  • Periodically check the arrival or departure monitors located throughout the airport for any changes pertaining to your flight.
  • Always have a good paperback in your carry-on bag to help keep time moving during unavoidable delays in terminals and aboard airplanes.
  • If you are departing on a flight, you must check in at your gate at least an hour before the flight, longer on international flights. Check with your airline.
  • Keep in mind that many airlines have new carry-on restrictions and that you may have to check-in larger purchases or have them shipped.

on 1/25/2007 Ditto the Grapvine Mills Mall comment...

Also Terminal D is now open and definitely worth a trip on the SkyLink train if you have some time to kill.

on 11/22/2005 Go shopping at nearby malls. There are 3 malls within 15 minutes of DFW: Grapevine Mills, Northeast Mall and Irving Mall. Again remember airline carry-on limitations and be prepared to check purchases. Take an airport shuttle or taxi to malls and back.
