Instructions

  1. Customizing Jean Size

    • 1

Measure your jeans to see if they need to be modified in size. Punk rock jeans are typically tight and form fitting, so the width of the jean legs should be within one or two inches of the width of your legs. If the jeans are too large, you can cut the outsides of the legs down to size and sew them up with colorful string and patches. If they are too small, you can enlarge the legs with bandannas, ripped t-shirts or any other types of scrap cloth. Start by taking a measurement of the fullest part of your lower body. Divide the measurement in two. For example, if the broadest part of your hips measures 44 inches, record 22 inches.

    • 2

Place the jeans on a flat surface and measure the widest portion of the hips.

    • 3

Compare the measurement of the divided hip measurement to the measurement of the jean hip area. If the width of the jeans is larger than your body, you will need to downsize by cutting excess denim from the outside of the jeans and resewing. If there is not enough room in the jeans to fit your body, you will need to add some width to the jean legs with materials of your choice. There are no rules on how to reconstruct punk rock jeans. Rules would defeat their purpose. Modify the legs of the jeans with materials that match your personality and are sturdy.

    • 4

Slash and rip jeans with scissors on the thighs, knees or any other parts of the legs. With time, the cuts will fray and look as if they were not made on purpose.

Tips & Warnings

  • Customize your jeans with patches, pins, paint or any other accessories that will set your jeans apart. Avoid spending too much time arranging the decorations on the jeans. Randomly decorated jeans will make you appear as a free-thinking punk rocker.
