How to Tie a Muffler Scarf

A muffler scarf can be a sheer and chic accessory for summer or a warm and practical addition to your winter wardrobe. Recently, men's scarves have become as trendy and versatile as women's, and men wear them with just as much panache.A muffler scarf is a unisex catchall term, as both are basically lengths of cloth worn around the neck and shoulders for warmth or decoration. There are many techniques for tying a muffler scarf from the classical and elegant to the functional and funky.

Instructions

Classic

1. Fold the scarf around your neck so the two ends rest against your chest.

2. Adjust the ends so one is longer than the other by six to 12 inches, depending on the total length of the muffler scarf.

3. Wrap the longer end loosely around your neck several times, covering it completely up to your chin.

4. Knot the two ends in front or arrange decoratively for a warm weather look. During the winter, tuck ends into shirt, jacket or coat for extra warmth.

European Chic

1. Fold muffler scarf in two. Hold the two ends in your right hand, and the fold in your left.

2. Drape across the back of your neck.

3. Feed the loose ends through the looped fold and tighten below your chin. Adjust for comfort.

• The European knot works best for men and women when styled with a short, fitted jacket.
