How to Change the Color of Previously Visited Links

If your website uses the same color for previously visited links as it does for unvisited links, you may confuse and frustrate visitors who end up wandering around the site, clicking on links they've already tried. Using a different color for previously visited links help visitors understand where they've been and where they should go next. You can modify your site's HTML to rectify the problem, or change the settings in your Web browser.

Instructions

  1. On Your Site

    • 1

Find the "<body>" tag in your website's HTML code.

    • 2

Look for "<body link="(color)">" shortly after the tag.

    • 3

Look for the "vlink" command and change the color to something different from the main body link. For example, if you find the command "<body link="blue" alink="blue" vlink="blue">," change the color after "vlink" to something like "red" or "violet." If you only come across "<body link="blue">" in the code, simply add "vlink="violet"."
