Instructions

      Chain 5 and slip stitch into the first stitch to make a ring. Chain 2 and single crochet 9 times into the hole of the ring. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet stitch. This is row one.

      Chain 2, single crochet in the first stitch and in each of the single crochet stitches around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet. This is row two.

      Chain 2, single crochet in the same stitch and single crochet twice in the next stitch. Continue this pattern around the row of single crochet stitches and slip stitch in the first single crochet. Repeat this row three times, adding a single crochet between the incidents of two single crochets in the same stitch with each row. These are rows three, four, five and six. Row four will have a single crochet in two stitches, followed by two single crochet stitches in one stitch and so on.

      Chain 2 and single crochet in the same stitch, then in each stitch across. Slip stitch into the first single crochet. Repeat this row five times. These are the seventh through eleventh rows.

      Chain 2 and single crochet in next 4 stitches. Skip a stitch and single crochet in next 5 single crochet stitches. Repeat across, then slip stitch in the row's first stitch. This is row twelve.

      Chain 2 and single crochet in next 3 stitches. Skip a stitch and single crochet in next 4 single crochet stitches. Repeat across, then slip stitch in the first stitch. This is row thirteen. Fill the hacky sack with dried lentils at this point until the ball is firm, but not overfilled.
