How to Set Up & Use an Amazon Kindle
If you have recently purchased your first Amazon Kindle, you are probably not sure how to properly set up and use the device. The process of setting up and using the Kindle is fairly straightforward and involves charging, registering and configuring the device.

Plug the Kindle's USB cable into an available USB port on your computer. Wait a few seconds for your computer to recognize the Kindle.

Allow your Kindle to charge for an hour or two without use if this is the first time you are using it. The Kindle's charge should reach between 25 and 50 percent.

Move the "Power" switch up to power on the device.

Press "Home," then press "Menu." Scroll to "Settings" and press the middle of the Navigation wheel to open "Settings." Scroll down and press the middle of the Navigation wheel to select the network you would like to connect to. Type in the "Wi-Fi" password, then press the middle of the Navigation wheel to accept the password.

Register your Kindle. Registering your Kindle ensures that it is covered by warranty in case it stops working. Open "Settings" then select "Register." Type in your Amazon account information, or select "Sign Up" to sign up for a new account. Press "Register" to complete the registration process.

Press the "Menu" button and then highlight and select "Shop in Kindle Store" to find books to purchase. Browse books by category or Kindle top sellers. Select the book you would like to purchase, then press "Buy."

Press the "Menu" button, then select "My Library" to open and read a book. Press the "Next" button to go to the next page or the "Prev" button to go to the previous page. Kindle automatically bookmarks your progress, so do you not need to worry about bookmarking where you stop.

Unplug your Kindle once the device is fully charged.
