How to Make a Captain America Mask

Save

Captain America is a superhero character from the Marvel comic books. His costume is characterized by the colors red, white and blue, and his outfit includes a mask that covers his head. You can make this type of mask to complete a Captain America costume for a theme party or for Halloween. You'll need just a few materials and tools. Making this mask yourself will cost less than purchasing a similar item from a costume shop.

Things You'll Need

  • Ski mask
  • Letter stencil
  • White fabric paint
  • Foam paint brush
  • Scissors
  • Purchase a ski mask in a royal blue color. It should be the sort of knit ski mask that can fold down to cover the entire face. Look for one in a finely knit fabric so it is easier to paint on.

  • Lay the ski mask flat on a table. Place a piece of cardboard inside the mask to prevent paint from bleeding through.

  • Place a letter stencil in the shape of an A at the top half of the mask. You can buy the stencil at a craft shop or make your own by cutting out an A shape from a piece of cardboard. Paint in the letter using white fabric paint, then peel the stencil away and let dry.

  • Cut two, round eye holes where your eyes will go, if your mask does not have eye holes. Cut a 3-inch by 3-inch square under the eye holes that will let the portion of your face with the nose and mouth to show through.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can't find a blue ski mask, buy a white one and dye it.
