How to Upload Books to a Nook

Save

The Barnes & Noble Nook allows you to carry multiple books, magazines and other reading materials with you in one device. Once you purchase or download a book on your computer, you can upload it to your Nook. Your Nook is compatible with several file types, including PDF files, Microsoft Office documents, simple text files and EPUB files. The books you purchase from Barnes & Noble directly are EPUB files. There are also other sources where you can find books in the EPUB format, such as Project Gutenberg.

  • Plug one end of the microUSB cable into your Nook. The cable came with the Nook at the time of purchase.

  • Plug the other end into an available USB port on your computer. If the Nook drive does not appear on your desktop, click "Start" and "Computer." The removable Nook drive is in the "Computer" window.

  • Double-click the Nook drive to open it.

  • Drag the book you are uploading to the appropriate folder in the Nook drive. For instance, if you have a "Books" folder, drag the book to that folder.

  • Wait for the book to finish uploading before disconnecting your Nook from the computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also use the Nook's wireless capability to search for and add a book. Push the "Home" button on your device. Select the "Shop" icon and search for books by title or category. Once you find a book you want, select it and tap "Buy." Tap "Buy Now" to confirm and wait for your book to upload to your device.
  • Amazon Kindle books are not compatible with the Nook.
