How to Link to a Name on a Facebook Comment Wall

Tags are a way to link a photo, post or comment with another Facebook member. In short, tags make it easy for anyone who reads the comment to be directed to the member's profile. Tags also serve as a way to alert your friends that you are talking about them on the social networking site. A tag may only be created for a Facebook member with whom you are confirmed as a friend.

  • Click inside the "Write a comment" field beneath any post on a friend's wall, or your own wall.

  • Begin to type your comment and when you are ready to insert a tag, type the "@" symbol. Without leaving a space, start typing your friend's name. Facebook creates a short list of your friends with names that match your entry; click once on a friend's name in the list to select her for the tag.

  • Finish typing your comment and hit the "Enter" key to post the comment, including the tag. Your friend automatically receives a notification generated by Facebook that alerts her about the tag you created.
