How to Connect a Wireless Router to a Powerline Adapter

Save

Powerline adapters are devices which adapt the electrical wiring in your home to create Internet and network connections between different devices such as televisions, computers and video game consoles. Powerline adapters are bought in pairs: one connects the electrical system to the router that is connected to your modem and the other connects the electrical system to other devices that you'd like to connect to the Internet. Powerline adapters are a good way to expand the range of network connectivity in locations in which wireless Internet may not be accessible.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 powerline adapters
  • 2 Cat5 cables
  • 1 wireless router
  • 1 Internet-connected modem
  • Connect the modem to one of the Ethernet ports on one of the powerline adapters using one of the Cat5 cables.

  • Plug the powerline adapter into an electrical outlet.

  • Connect the wireless router to the other powerline adapter using the other Cat5 cable in the room in which you wish to install the wireless router.

  • Plug the powerline adapter into an electrical outlet. You now have connected your wireless router to your powerline adapter.
