IPhoto is a native program for organizing and editing digital photos on the Mac operating system. When you import photos into iPhoto from your camera, iPhoto automatically groups photos by the date on which you took them. This categorization method may not always be the most useful for you. To group photos differently -- for example, by theme or destination -- you can merge the different libraries, or "events," within iPhoto. The program allows you to do this with a just a few clicks.
Click "Events" within the pane on the left side of the iPhoto window. You will see all of your photo libraries or events.
Click a photo library that you want to merge with another. Drag and drop this library into the destination library. A dialog box asking you to confirm the merge will appear.
Click "Merge." The photos from the original library are now part of the destination library.
Tips & Warnings
- If merging more than two libraries, hold down the "Command" key as you click each of the libraries. Click the "Merge" button at the bottom-left corner of the window. This approach can be more time-efficient than dragging and dropping a large number of libraries.
- Select "Autosplit Selected Events" from the "Events" menu to undo a merge.
