Instructions for Dunhill Rollagas

Save

Dunhill Rollagas lighters are luxury butane cigarette lighters that feature a large roller thumbscrew for generating a spark from the flint that is used to ignite the butane gas. Several types of Rollagas lighters are available including solid precious metal models and carbon steel models. All Rollagas lighter models, including the smaller Rollagas Jr. series, require butane and a Dunhill flint in order to generate a flame. You can also adjust the size of your Rollagas flame by using the adjustment dial that is located either on the back or on the side of your lighter, depending upon the model.

Things You'll Need

  • Dunhill butane lighter fuel
  • Dunhill flint

Side Adjuster Models

  • Close the cap of your lighter and make sure you are far from any source of flame, sparks or extreme heat.

  • Remove the protective cap of the filler valve from the base of your Rollagas Jr. or Rollagas side adjuster model by pressing gently downward and turning it slightly in a counter-clockwise direction. The cap will then spring up so you can pull it up.

  • Slip the provided adapter over the dispensing tube of your can of Dunhill butane fuel. Turn your lighter upside-down and slide the dispensing tube with the attached adapter over the post in the center of the lighter filling valve. Press down on the can until a few drops of liquid fuel squirt out from the base of your lighter, which signifies the lighter is full. Pull the can of fuel out of the valve.

  • Place the valve cap back into the hole on the bottom of the lighter and press on it with a slight turning motion to lock it into place.

  • Turn your lighter right side up and open the cap. Make sure you hear a hissing sound.

  • Quickly rotate the thumb wheel on the corner of your lighter opposite to the cap hinge to ignite the gas and start the flame.

  • Turn the adjustment wheel under the cap hinge upward to make the flame higher or downward to make it lower as necessary before you light your cigar, pipe or cigarette.

  • Close the cap as soon as you are finished to safely extinguish the flame.

  • Change the flint by opening the cap and then using your fingernail or a coin to pull back the latch on the top of the lighting mechanism until the flint compartment pivots out sideways. Turn the lighter on its side and shake out any remainder of the old flint. Insert a Dunhill "B" size flint and snap the compartment back into place by gently pushing it toward the gas jet.

Base Adjuster Models

  • Close the cap of your lighter and make sure you are far from any source of flame, sparks or extreme heat.

  • Turn your lighter upside-down. Locate the fill valve at the bottom of the lighter and insert the filler tube of your can of Dunhill butane fuel into the valve hole. Press down on the can until a few drops of liquid fuel squirt out and then remove the can and turn the lighter right-side up.

  • Open the cap and listen for a hissing sound. Turn the large thumb-wheel on the side of your lighter to light the flame.

  • Close the cap if the flame is too low or too high. Turn the lighter upside-down and pull up the handle on the adjustment wheel with your fingernail. Turn the handle clockwise to increase the flame size or counterclockwise to decrease it before you open the cap and relight the lighter.

  • Light your cigar, pipe or cigarette and close the lighter cap to extinguish the flame.

  • Change the flint by opening the lighter cap and then using your fingernail or a coin to pull back the latch on the top of the lighting mechanism until the flint compartment pivots out sideways. Turn the lighter on its side and shake out any remainder of the old flint. Insert a Dunhill "B" size flint and snap the compartment back into place by gently pushing it toward the gas jet.
