How to Install BCP

Save

The bulk copy program (BCP) is a command-line utility developed by Microsoft for the Microsoft SQL Server Native Client. The BCP can import or export large amounts of data into or from SQL Server tables. Since it is a command-line tool, it is generally quicker and more efficient than other similar programs that have a graphical user interface (GUI). The BCP utility cannot be downloaded alone. Instead, it is part of a larger collection of command-line utilities developed for the SQL client.

  • Download the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Command Line Utilities pack (see Resources). There are many downloads on that page, and you'll have to scroll down to find it. You'll also need to know if you need an X86, X64 or IA64 version before you download it.

  • Locate and double-click the "SqlCmdLnUtils.msi" file you downloaded to start the installation process.

  • Click the "Run" button if Windows opens a security warning before the installation begins.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions to finish the installation.
