How to Hook Up an iPad to a Router

Devices such as the Apple iPad come with the ability to be connected or hooked up to the Internet via Wi-Fi available through a router. Once connected, iPad users can browse the Internet, download applications and take advantage of applications that require Internet connectivity. Hooking your iPad up to a router merely requires knowing the router's information and the correct way to configure Wi-Fi on an iPad.

  • Write down the wireless network name and password for your router. If you do not know where to find this information, consult your router's manual.

  • Tap the "Settings" icon on your Apple iPad. The "Settings" icon is either on your iPad's home page or within a folder if you have moved it there.

  • Tap the "Wi-Fi" icon within "Settings."

  • Tap the button next to "Wi-Fi" to turn the iPad's Wi-Fi on.

  • Tap the name of your network under "Choose a Network" on the iPad.

  • Type in the router's wireless password.

  • Tap the "Join" button to hook up your iPad to the router.
