How to Create a Mibbit Bot

"Mibbit" is a free online chat service that is designed for people who can't download chat software, such as people at a public computer area or people at work. There are many different things you can do with Mibbit, such as creating your own chat channel and creating a bot for your channel. A bot is a program that can kick users off the chat channel for improper chat etiquette or if the room gets too full. It can even block certain users completely.

  • Create a chat channel in Mibbit and assign it a name that is easy to remember, such as "mychat" or "lastnamechat" replacing "lastname" with your real last name.

  • Type this phrase into the chat window: "/msg BotServ ASSIGN #channel Bot." Replace "# channel" with the name of your channel. For example, if your channel is "smithchat" you would type "/msg BotServ ASSIGN smithchat Bot."

  • Configure the options for your bot by typing "/msg BotServ SET #channel." Follow the onscreen directions to change the options, such as the severity of the security and specific users you want to block.

  • Enter the phrase "/msg BotServ HELP" to open up a help window for your bot. Use the information there to answer any questions you have about the bot.
