How to Edit a Graph in Illustrator

Save

Vector shapes are often used to create graphics because of the small file sizes that result and the easy expandability of the image to any size required. They are also used because the resulting files are easily edited and changed. For example, if you have created a bar graph in the vector graphics application Adobe Illustrator, you might need to adjust the bars in the graph, or the labels and numbers used in light of new data. This is easy to do.

  • Load the Illustrator file you want to edit onto your computer.

  • Start the Illustrator application. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog, browse to and open the file you loaded.

  • Select the "Selection" tool from the toolbar on the left. Click on one of the bars you want to edit to select it. Click on the middle handle at the top and drag it up or down to adjust the size of the bar. You can also go to the "Fill" option and change the color of the bar. Edit all of the bars in this way.

  • Select the "Type" tool from the toolbar. Click on some text you want to change, such as a bar label or one of the numbers on the side. You can either delete this text and replace it, or you can highlight it and use the tool options at the top to change the font style, size and color. Repeat this with any other text you want to change.

  • Select "File" from the menu and click "Save."
