How Do I Set Up BBM on My BlackBerry?

Save

BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is an instant messaging application that uses BlackBerry PIN numbers. Most modern BlackBerries come with BBM already installed; but if yours doesn't, you can install it using your BlackBerry's browser. BBM allows you to send instant messages to other BlackBerry users at no extra charge. The message data is transferred using the BlackBerry data network instead of the carrier's text messaging system.

  • Go to blackberry.com/messenger on your BlackBerry browser. On BlackBerries without touch screens, press the menu button and select "Go to..." to enter the URL.

  • Press "Enter" and touch or click "Download."

  • Pick your language and touch or click "Next." When the dialog box appears, select "Download." If the phone asks if you want to overwrite the previous version, select "Yes."

  • Select "Reboot Now" to restart the phone and complete the setup.

  • Open the "Instant Messaging" icon and select "BlackBerry Messenger." Enter your username and password if prompted.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also set up BlackBerry Messenger through the browser on your computer. Go to "us.blackberry.com/apps-software/blackberrymessenger/" and click "Download BBM." Enter the email address connected to your BlackBerry and click "Submit." Open the message when it arrives and click the download link to install the app.
