How to Go After My Hopes and Dreams Without Fear

How to Go After My Hopes and Dreams Without Fear thumbnail
Fear can stunt the most ambitious hopes and dreams if you let it.

When it comes to achieving our hopes and dreams, we often tend to self sabotage and give ourselves excuses for why we are unable to do something. Fear of failure often plays into this, and many people have to train themselves to approach their goals without letting fear derail them. When you are going after your hopes and dreams without fear, keep a few concepts in mind.

Instructions

    • 1

Set your goals down in writing where you can refer to them often. List the steps needed to achieve your hopes and dreams as well as the reasons you might talk yourself out of them. Formulate a reasonable plan for overcoming obstacles for each step; your new business might not make money as quickly as you had projected. Plan B is cashing in some stocks you own or taking out a home equity loan to tide you over.

    • 2

Take the first step. Even if it is a small one, make a change or a decision or do something positive that puts you on the path to achievement. Remember that any goal you want to reach is done so by a series of steps, and you only have to do one at a time. Remembering this might make the big picture goal less intimidating.

    • 3

Identify your negative emotions like fear, and acknowledge them without allowing them to influence your choices. Tell yourself why you are afraid, and remind yourself that the feelings are temporary.

    • 4

Reconstruct how you feel about failing. Instead of seeing something not working the first time as the death knell of your goal, brainstorm a different way you can make something work out. Understand that most difficult things you undertake will have snags and setbacks that you will have to work around.

    • 5

Celebrate each completed step, and develop a "can do" attitude. Recognize that each accomplishment is another step closer to your dream, and give it the weight it deserves as a victory that makes you stronger and gives you confidence for the next step. For instance, each time you lose 10 pounds, you realize that you have it in you to lose another 10 and there is no reason why you can't.

    • 6

Empower yourself by asking questions that remind you who is in charge of your life. Ask yourself if you are in control of your destiny or your fear of failure. Ask yourself what is the worst thing that can happen if you do fail, and what is the best thing? Determine whether one outweighs the other. Take control of your life by remembering that you alone are enough to make anything happen.
