Instructions

  1. How to Knit a Ribbed Scarf

    • 1

Cast 38 stitches on your knitting needle.

    • 2

Create the ribs in the scarf by alternating double knit stitch and double purl stitch. The first row should begin with two knitting stitches and end with two knitting stitches.

    • 3

Repeat the same two stitches in the second row, but this time begin and end with two purl stitches.

    • 4

Alternate these two steps until the scarf has reached the desired length.

    • 5

Cast off and weave in the end of the scarf.

How to Make a Fabric Scarf

    • 6

Choose a jersey fabric such as sheer cotton jersey or rayon jersey.

    • 7

Cut the 2 1/2 yards of fabric so that it's between 15 inches and 20 inches wide.

    • 8

Leave the edges unsewn to create a raw edge. Many fabrics may curl at the edge naturally.

    How to Crochet a Scarf

    • 9

Chain 22, then in the first row double crochet the fourth chain and continue to the end of the chain.

    • 10

Chain three for the second row, turn, double crochet into the second double stitch and then in every stitch from the previous row.

    • 11

Repeat steps for row two until the scarf reaches your desired length.

    • 12

Finish the scarf and weave the yarn into the last row.
