How to Write a Sponsorship Proposal for an Up & Coming Group
Finding funding for a non-profit venture or organization is challenging. However, with enough creativity and research you can find individuals, as well as companies ,who are dedicated to philanthropy and may agree to offer sponsorship. If your new group is socially aligned with a company or the beliefs of an individual donor, you may be able to parlay that relationship into a donation and ongoing support. Requesting sponsorship support can be an effective way to get the needs of your organization met and help you build credibility for your group. Before agreeing to support you, a sponsor needs to know your intentions for their donation as well as the overall goal of the organization. A well-written sponsorship proposal is the first step of the sponsorship process.

1
Search for companies that have a similar mission, goal or social message as your group. Because the organization is new, you want to approach a company that has a similar philosophy. If it has a similar philosophy, it will recognize the societal benefit your group can provide. You will also want to get an idea of the type of organizations the sponsor typically supports. You may be able to access its philanthropic history by reviewing its website. You can also read industry-specific magazines to make a list of possible sponsors.

2
Select an organization to which to submit the letter. Review the sponsor's website to find out who handles donation requests. Contact the organization and obtain the potential sponsors' input. Ask what they like to see in a sponsorship proposal. Also ask what the organization would like to gain from offering sponsorship support to your group. The wishes of the sponsor should not be a secret and getting an understanding of what it seeks to gain will help you organize your proposal and determine if it is a match for your group.

3
Write an outline for your proposal. You should include an executive summary and the overall mission of the organization. The organization's funding sources and future goals can also be included. Because your organization is new, you want to include as much information as possible to put the sponsor at ease that its contribution will be used responsibly.

4
Use the outline as your guide and start writing your proposal. Be sure to include the amount that will be sufficient for your needs. This is where thoroughly researching the sponsor will be helpful. You want to request assistance that is in line with the ability of the sponsor. If it has historically given support of $1,000 to organizations, you do not want to send a sponsorship proposal asking for $10,000. You also want to be sure the amount you are requesting is competitive with what groups similar to your group would request.
-
5
Give your proposal to a colleague to review before sending it to the sponsor. You want to be sure your request is concise and your proposal is free of grammatical and spelling errors.
