How to Private Message in a Chat Box
When you write a note in a chat room, it is available for public viewing, at least by the other participants. But if you have a note you want to send to just one of your fellow chatters, you need to send him a private message. It is a simple task that you can complete in a few clicks. Many chat room providers offer private messaging functions.

Keep in mind that chat logs are stored on the chat room administrator's server. So even though the message cannot be viewed by other members of the chat room, it may be possible for the administrators of the chat room to access private chat logs.
