How to Allocate More Bandwidth for File Downloads

When it comes to downloading files, the speed of your download will be affected by several factors, including but not limited to, your total available bandwidth, the other programs currently running that use bandwidth and the file host's bandwidth. Luckily most file downloading programs, give users the ability to allocate more bandwidth to downloads. If your download is progressing slower than you'd like it to, go into your program's settings and allocate more bandwidth to the download.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your file downloading program and select the "Preferences," or similarly named option from the menu bar.

    • 2

Click on the "Bandwidth" tab in the navigation pane and type a "0" in the "Maximum Download Rate," or similarly named, box. Click "Apply" and "OK;" this will remove any bandwidth limits currently in place.

    • 3

Begin downloading the desired files and then right-click on the file. From the context menu, select "Bandwidth Allocation" and then choose "High."

    • 4

Go back into the "Bandwidth Allocation" menu and select "Unlimited" next to "Set Download Limit." Your file download will now have more bandwidth allocated to it.
