From Tom Selleck to Colin Farrell, many famous men have sported mustaches over the years. If you like the look of a mustache, but have found the mustache hairs are too course and dry for you, there are a few simple steps to follow to care for your mustache properly. Avoid using soaps or facial cleansers on your mustache, as these can dry out the hairs and the skin underneath. To achieve a soft, moisturized mustache, treat your mustache hair much like the hair on your head. While there are shampoos and conditioners made especially for mustaches and beards, any regular moisturizing shampoo and conditioner will work.

Stand in a warm shower for a few minutes to open pores, soften hairs and provide a good place to wash and condition your mustache without creating a mess.

Splash water on your face while still in the shower and gently rub a small dime-sized amount of shampoo into your mustache. Rinse.

Apply a dime-sized amount of conditioner to your mustache, making sure to cover the hairs all the way to the roots.

Let the conditioner sit for two to four minutes on your mustache hairs as you stand in the shower.

Rinse your mustache thoroughly to remove all conditioner. If you have acne prone skin, make sure to remove all conditioner residue, as this can promote acne.

Apply a hot oil treatment to mustache hairs once a week and let it sit for five to 10minutes before rinsing thoroughly for additional softening.
