How to Obtain CUSIP Numbers

How to Obtain CUSIP Numbers thumbnail
CUSIP numbers uniquely identify an issuer and its securities.

Issuers of registered securities such as U.S. corporate bonds may request a unique identifier from the Committee on Uniform Securities Identification Procedures (CUSIP). CUSIP numbers consist of nine alphanumeric characters that enable the clearing and settlement of securities transactions. Outside of the U.S., an analogous system is employed to identify foreign securities known as the CUSIP International Numbering System.
