The game 2-7 Single Draw is a type of poker that requires players to create the best possible low hand to win the pot. At the start of the game each player is dealt five hole cards. After the first round of betting, players can discard as many of their cards as they like and have them replaced with cards from the deck. In this game, straights and flushes are bad for your hand and the ace counts as a high card. A straight is when you have five cards in a row, such as 3,4,5,6 and 7. A flush is when you have five cards all of the same suit.
Shuffle the deck and deal five cards to each of the players. Decide who will have the dealer button. This is an advantageous position as the dealer is the last to act in each round, except the first round. Decide on the blind, or the initial ante to put into the pot. The small blind will come from the person to the left of the dealer and big blind from the person on the left of the small blind. The player with the small blind puts half the amount of chips into the pot as the big blind before any cards are dealt. For example, if the blinds are 1/2, the small blind will put in 1 chip and the big blind puts in two. The small and big blind are the last two players to act on the first round of betting and the first to act on every round after that. The dealer button, small blind and big blind designations move one seat to the left after each hand.
Have the player to the left of the big blind decide to call, raise or fold. A call is when someone decides to call a bet that has previously been made by another player in order to stay in the hand. For example, if a player acting before you bets 50 chips, to call you would place 50 chips in the pot to stay in the hand when it's your turn to act. Each player then takes a turn to act going around the table. If no raise has been made when it's the turn of the player in the big blind position, the big blind can check. A check allows you to stay in the hand without having to bet any chips. If everyone on the table checks, they are all able to go to the next round of betting without putting any chips in the pot.
Have each player choose how many of the five cards they wish to discard. The cards you discard are replaced by new cards from the deck. If you wish, you can choose to discard no cards.
Go around the table and have another round of betting. The first person to act will be the first person to the left of the dealer button who is still in the game. There are only two rounds of betting before everyone still in the pot reveals their hand.
Reveal your hand along with the rest of the table. The person with the best low hand wins the pot. If two people both have the best low hand, the pot is split between the two players. The best possible hand is 7,5,4,3,2. A hand of 2,3,4,5,6 would not be the best low hand as it is a straight and would count against you. A 2,3,4,5,6 would only beat a higher straight or a flush.
