Being able to accept food stamps at your South Carolina place of business increases your client base. Becoming a food stamp or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) vendor is a three-step process and can be completed entirely online, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Once you've applied, a Food and Nutrition Service representative may visit your store to confirm your eligibility. The approval process takes up to 45 days.

      Activate a U.S. Department of Agriculture account online by visiting the USDA website. Select "Register" and provide a valid email address. The USDA will send registration instructions, your user name and password to your email within 15 minutes. Click on the link in the email to return to the USDA page.

      Apply to become a South Carolina food stamp vendor. You have 30 days from beginning the application to complete it. Provide the name of the business owner, home address, phone number, Social Security number and estimated annual sales. You can check the status of the application online at any time.
