How to Hook a Dell 926 Printer to a Wireless Router
Dell's Photo All-in-One 926 printer does a lot of things: It prints photos at high resolutions, copies, scans and prints. Unfortunately, it doesn't do one thing: It doesn't connect directly to a wireless router. But neither do most printers. This doesn't mean that you can't network your Dell 926 printer; it just means that you have to share your printer over your home network by way of your wireless router.

1
Turn on the computer that is connected to the 926 via USB and turn on the printer. The Dell 926 printer is compatible with Windows XP and Windows 2000, both of which allow print sharing over a network. Ensure that your router is turned on and that your computer is connected to your local network -- either by a network cable or wirelessly.

Click "Start" and "Control Panel," then double-click "Printers and Other Hardware." Click "Printers and Faxes." Right-click the Dell Photo All-in-One 926 and choose "Sharing..." Click the "Sharing" tab and choose "Share this printer." Give the printer a name for the network and then click "Additional drivers." Click all of the check boxes to ensure maximum compatibility and then click "OK" and "Close."

Go to another computer on your network and log in. This second computer (and all additional computers you want to add the printer to) can connect to the network through the wireless router -- it doesn't need to be physically connected to the printer. Click "Start" and open "Control Panel." Double-click "Printers and Other Hardware" and "Printers and Faxes." Choose "Add a printer" under "Printer Tasks" to open the new printer wizard, which walks you through adding a network printer.
-
4
Click "Next" to begin the installation and choose "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer." Click "Next" again. Choose "Find a printer in the directory" and click "Next" to browse your local network for any shared printers. Choose the Dell 926 from the next screen (it will have the name you gave it in Step 2). If the printer doesn't automatically appear in the list, click "Browse...," select the computer name that has the printer and click "Find now." Click "OK" to add the printer.

5
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 on each computer you want to print to wirelessly. You need to keep the host computer and printer on at all times to use wireless printing.
