How to Troubleshoot Video Problems in Windows XP
Sometimes, when animation or video problems occur, you will receive error message "Display problems. This program can't continue." Flickering, unusual resolution setting limitations and monitor installation difficulties are common signs that something is wrong with your computer hardware. Your best bet is to use the Video Display Troubleshooter. The tool will recall its comprehensive list of video problems, associated symptoms and logical resolutions.

Click "Start," click "Help and Support" and then click "Fixing a Problem" under "Pick a Help Topic."

Click "Games, Sound and Video Problems" in the left pane, and then click "Display Troubleshooter" in the right pane.

Click the option that closest describes the video problem in Windows XP, and then click "Next." If your computer does not work correctly, repeat these steps until the issue is resolved. If problems still occur, go to the next step.

Check for driver updates. Start "Microsoft Internet Explorer" and then click "Windows Update" on the "Tools" menu.

Click "Yes" to install recommended updates, if prompted and then click "Express Install (Recommended: High Priority Updates for Your Computer." Microsoft Update or Windows Update will take a few moments to search for applicable updates.

Click each recommended update to select it, and then click "Install."
