It is important to know how to set the EQ for a bass guitar in order to achieve a bass tone that is appropriate for the style of music you play. Some bassists like a deep and thick bass tone, whereas others like a thin and treble tone. Regardless of the tone you prefer, knowing how to adjust the EQ of your bass will allow you to attain a wide variety of tones with your bass guitar.

      Turn the knob labeled "Low" or "Bass" on your bass amp to fatten your bass tone by increasing the low frequencies. Doing so will thicken the bass tone and make it more powerful. If there is a graphic equalizer on your bass amp, turn up the frequencies around 80 Hz.

      Turn the knob labeled "Low" or "Bass" on your bass amp if your bass to decrease the low frequencies. Doing so will reduce the amount of rumble created by the bass and thin out its tone. If there is a graphic equalizer on your bass amp, turn down the frequencies around 80 Hz.

      Turn the knob labeled "Mid" on your bass amp to make your bass tone sound more aggressive. Doing so will allow your bass to more easily cut through a mix. If there is a graphic equalizer on your bass amp, turn up the frequencies around 900 Hz.

      Turn the knob labeled "Mid" on your bass amp to make your bass tone sound less aggressive. This will give the bass a hollow or mellow tone. If there is a graphic equalizer on your bass amp, turn up the frequencies between 300 Hz and 900 Hz.

      Turn the knob labeled "High" or "Treble" to brighten a dull sounding bass tone. If there is a graphic equalizer on your bass amp, turn up the frequencies around 5 Khz to 9 Khz.

      Turn the knob labeled "High" or "Treble" to dull a bass tone that is too bright or harsh. If there is a graphic equalizer on your bass amp, turn down the frequencies around 5 Khz to 9 Khz.
