How to Turn on Hulu Subtitles

How to Turn on Hulu Subtitles thumbnail
You can turn on subtitles if they are available on Hulu.com.

The Federal Communications Commission requires closed captioning for most television programming. As more television shows are available on the Internet, the FCC commissioned the Video Programming Accessibility Advisory Committee to create regulations for online programming as well. At Hulu.com, if it is available for the show you are watching, you can turn on the closed captioning, or subtitles, through your Hulu account settings. Or, if you don't have an account, you can turn on the closed captioning while watching a show.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Play" for the show or movie you want to watch.

    • 2

Hover your cursor over the video and look at the bottom right corner to locate the closed captioning icon. It is a little box with two Cs inside. If there is no closed captioning icon, it is not available for the program.

    • 3

Click the "Closed Captioning" icon. Select "English" and select your preferred caption style for the text. You can select the different caption styles while the video is playing to see which one you prefer.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a profile with Hulu, you can modify your account settings to always show closed captioning when it's available. Sign in to your Hulu account and place your cursor on "Account" to show the drop-down menu. Click "Settings" and scroll to "Player Settings." Check the box for "Automatically turn on closed captions if available." Click "Save."
