Rodent mite infestations may be a result of having an infected pet mouse or rat, or a result of having a rodent infestation. Before you call in expensive professional to fumigate your home with harmful chemicals, try taking care of the situation on your own. There is a simple do-it-yourself method that you can use to rid your home of rodent mites. The method is easy and can be completed by using common household cleaners.
Things You'll Need
- Large trash bags
- Baking soda
- Vacuum cleaner
- Clean wet rag
- 12 oz. white vinegar
- 12 oz. spray bottle
- 4 to 5 drops lavender or tea tree oil
Place any mite-infested items into a large trash bag.
Sprinkle baking soda onto any rug or carpeted area that has been infested with rodent mites.
Vacuum the entire area to remove the baking soda.
Remove the vacuum cleaner bag and place it into the large trash bag that contains the other infested items. Discard the trash bag.
Pour a small amount of bleach onto a clean wet rag and wipe the entire infested surface.
Fill a 12 oz. spray bottle with 12 oz. white vinegar.
Add 4 to 5 drops of lavender or tree tea oil to dilute the smell of the vinegar.
Spray the vinegar on the entire infested area and allow it to dry completely. The vinegar will kill any remaining mites.
