The rooms in your home generally will have their own unique layout. This can make things like interior decorating, home improvement projects and renovations a bit of a challenge. One way to make these tasks easier is to draw a diagram for the room's floor plan. You can use the diagram as you plan to changes and renovations to the room and as you start to pick out the decorative elements. With the diagram of the floor plan, you can completely redesign the room with ease.
Things You'll Need
- Tape measure
- Graphing paper
Measure the room using a tape measure.
Measure all permanent areas, such as closets, fireplaces or large appliances.
Use graphing paper to recreate the room. Come up with a scale, such as one inch is equal to 10 feet of the room.
Add the other elements of the room that you measured in Step 2 to complete the diagram.
Tips & Warnings
- Make copies of the diagram and draw in possible arrangements for furniture and other decorative items to help you decorate the room.
