1
Take it black. For some it is an acquired taste, but many enjoy coffee served as it is, freshly brewed with nothing added. Because the taste of black coffee is not masked by any added flavoring, you may choose to be particular about the strength of the brew and the quality of the grounds.

2
Take it with cream and sugar. The sweetness of the sugar and the richness of the cream will make the coffee less bitter-tasting. You can also add sugar to black coffee without cream; this will sweeten the brew and retain the coffee's distinct flavor. If cream is too rich in taste or caloric value, other options include low-fat milk or coffee whitener, a powdered substance used in place of cream.

Take it with a pinch of salt. Dark-roast beans can produce a particularly bitter coffee. To retain the intense flavor and reduce the bitterness, place the pinch of salt in your mug or mixed in the grounds before brewing.

4
Take it with ice cream. For a sweet treat, put a scoop of ice cream on top of your coffee. You can also blend the coffee and ice cream together and top with whipped cream.

5
Take it with a flavored syrup, powder or spice from the kitchen rack. Flavored syrups in liquid form such as hazelnut and vanilla are an easy way to give coffee an extra boost. Alternatively, add chocolate powder to coffee to make a cafe mocha or get the cinnamon from the spice rack and add it to your completed brew.

Take it with an egg. Egg coffee is a Norwegian specialty. To make a batch, combine 1/2 cup of coffee grounds with one egg and 1/4 cup of water in a bowl. Boil 10 cups of coffee on the stove. Add the coffee and egg mixture to the boiling water and boil for two or three minutes. Remove the boiling mixture from the stove and add 1 cup of cold water. Serve hot in individual mugs.
