How to Use Google's Buzz

Google Buzz is a social networking feature of Google's Gmail service which allows you to post stories, videos, links or photos and read similar posts from your friends. Google Buzz uses your Gmail contact list to find potential new followers. Followers are people which can access your Google Buzz posts. You can learn how to use Google Buzz in just a few steps.

Instructions

  1. Logging in to Google Buzz

      Open your web browser and visit the Gmail homepage. Log in to Gmail with your Google Account credentials. If you don't have a Google Account, you can create one by clicking on "Create an account" and following the instructions.

      Click on "Buzz" in the left pane of the Gmail interface.

      Find people to follow by clicking on the "Find people" link at the bottom of the Google Buzz interface. Google Buzz will now load your Gmail contacts and suggest people for you to follow. Click on the "Follow" link next to the people you wish to receive posts from.

    Posting Your Own Content

      Type a post in the text field under your name. Alternatively, you can also share a picture or a web link by clicking, respectively, on "Photo" or "Link." To post a link, type or copy-and-paste the link in the "Add a link to this post" and click on "Add link." To post a photo, select "Upload from my computer" if you wish to upload an image from your hard drive or "Picasa Web Albums" to share a photo from one of your Picasa albums. Picasa is a free image storing service from Google.

      Select "Public on the web" or "Private" from the drop-down menu. If you select "Public on the web," everyone will be able to read and find your post, even complete strangers. If you select "Private," you can restrict access to your post to groups, such as your coworkers, family or friends.

      Click on the "Post" button.

    Interacting With Other People's Content

      Click on the "Comment" link under one of your contacts' post if you wish to comment on it. Type your comment in the text field under the post and click on "Post comment."

      Click on the "Like" or "Un-like" link under a post to tell the author that you either like or don't like his post.

      Click on "Email" under a post to ask Google Buzz to send a copy of that post directly to your Gmail inbox. This allows you to permanently save important posts.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you post a photo as "Public on the web," Google Buzz automatically saves a copy of it into your Picasa Web Album.
