How to Find Google Indexed Pages

How to Find Google Indexed Pages thumbnail
Indexed pages appear in Google's search results.

Getting your website indexed by Google can spell the difference between a successful online presence and a slow, lingering death on the Web. Google sees over 65 percent of all search traffic as of February 2011. That means if someone is looking for something on the Internet, they're probably using Google to do it. The list of results you see when you search for something are all Web pages that Google's bots have indexed and added to the company's database. You can use special search modifiers to see how many pages Google has indexed for a particular website.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Web browser and navigate to Google at google.com.

    • 2

Use Google's "site:" modifier to limit your search to a specific domain. Do not include "http://" or "www" when typing out the website's domain, and do not enter a separate search term. For example, to limit your search to eHow, type "site:ehow.com" -- minus the quotes -- into Google's search field.

    • 3

Click "Google Search" to launch the search.

    • 4

Look for the number of indexed pages for the website to appear just underneath the search field at the top of the results screen. For example, at the time of publication, searching "site:ehow.com" displayed "About 4,850,000 results (0.12 seconds)." That means eHow has about 4,850,000 pages indexed by Google.

    • 5

Browse through the results to find which specific pages have already been indexed by Google.

Tips & Warnings

  • Website owners can use Google's webmaster tools to track which of their pages have been indexed after submitting a Sitemap to the search giant.
