How to Send & Receive Free Texts on an iPod Touch

Send free texts with a texting app on your iPod touch

Luckily several free texting apps are available for the iPod touch. Apps also are available for less than $10 that allow you to send and receive texts for free once you've bought and configured the texting app. To text with your iPod touch you will need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network and you have to make sure Push notification is on.

Instructions

1. Tap the App Store icon on your touch.

2. Select "Search" from the lower menu and type in "text" or "SMS" in the search box. SMS is another term for texting.

3. Go through the list of available apps to read reviews and product descriptions.

4. Decide on an app that has the features you want. Many texting apps combine voice and picture service with SMS.

5. Press the "Free" or price button at the top of the app description.

6. Type in your App Store password when prompted.

7. Wait while the app downloads. Tap on the icon when it's complete.

8. Follow the app's configuration instructions to set up your texting account.

9. Tap the Settings icon on your Home screen and go to "Notifications." Make sure the slider is set to "On." Notifications alert you when a new message comes in.

10. Use your app to send and receive texts.
