Ideal conclusions round out the essay into a comprehendable paragraph that enhances the essay's purpose.

The conclusion is the point of an essay at which writers give the essay validation in order to give readers a sense of fulfillment. Ideal conclusions provide the essay with purposeful, coherent points that resonate with the reader long after putting the essay down. With that said, compare and contrast essays must conclude with the writer justifying the reader's time spent reading the essay, instead of simply restating previous points made in the body of the essay.

Instructions

    • 1

Summarize the similarities and difference of the topics. Emphasize what the topics are and why they are important. Focus on the paper's significance and the result your points have had on the essay's completion.

    • 2

Restate the thesis of the essay. Do not simply repeat the same thesis used earlier in the essay, but instead use new words to remind readers of the essay's job and how well the body paragraphs accomplished what the writer set out to do. Include key words and phrases that relate back to the introduction and body paragraphs to emphasize important points.

    • 3

Recap important points made earlier in the essay. Do not bring up new points, as they cannot be established this late in the essay. Ensure that the tone of the essay is congruent to the rest of the paper. For instance, if you present a humorous and light tone throughout your essay, do not suddenly sound authoritative and stiff in the conclusion.

    • 4

Conclude with a call to action if the compare and contrast method is intended to inform readers about current issues and how they affect them as individuals or a whole. Pose unanswered questions for the readers to think about further, as well as a rationale as to why the similarities and differences are important to the audience.
