How to Change IE8 to Compatibility Mode

Not all websites display properly in Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft recognized that potential problem and integrated the Compatibility View. This mode displays websites as if they were opened in the older Internet Explorer 7. To avoid any difficulties, you can turn on compatibility mode for all websites, or toggle this mode on and off for individual sites. Ironically, toggling compatibility mode for individual sites may not be compatible with all sites.

Instructions

  1. Toggling Compatibility Mode

    • 1

      Open Internet Explorer.

    • 2

Navigate to the website for which you want to use compatibility mode.

    • 3

Click "Tools" in the top menu bar, and check "Compatibility View." If there is already a check next to "Compatibility View," then you are already using this mode. If you cannot see the top menu bar, press the "Alt" button to expose it.

Turn On Compatibility View for All Sites

    • 4

      Open Internet Explorer.

    • 5

Click "Tools" in the top menu bar, and select "Compatibility View Settings." If you cannot see the top menu bar, press the "Alt" key to expose it.

    • 6

Click "Display All Websites in Compatibility View," and click "Close."
