How to Get a Black Chocobo in "FF7"
Black chocobos in "Final Fantasy VII" possess all the combined abilities of their blue and green counterparts. You can traverse the world map's mountainous and watery terrain while riding a black chocobo, with the ocean being the only off-limits area for your travels. To get your own black chocobo, you'll have to do some breeding at ChocoBilly's stables and win races at the Gold Saucer track. You can begin the process on Disc 2, just after you gain control of the airship.
Instructions

1
Fly the airship to ChocoBilly's ranch. Head inside and speak with ChocoBilly. Purchase five stables and some Curiel Greens from him.
-
2
Fly the airship to the Mideel area and disembark. Equip the Chocobo Lure materia to one of your characters. Locate a "great" chocobo by fighting random battles on the chocobo tracks here until you encounter a chocobo along with one or more Spiral enemies. Use the Item command to feed the chocobo some Curiel Greens and finish off the Spirals. Send the chocobo back to the stables when the battle is over. Repeat the process to catch a second chocobo and send it to the stables as well.

3
Return to ChocoBilly and speak with him to move one of your chocobos from the pen to the stables. ChocoBilly will tell you the gender of your chocobo as he brings it inside. After you move one chocobo to the stables, leave the ranch and save the game. Return and move the other chocobo inside. If your chocobos are of the same gender, reset and try again. Once you have two "great" chocobos of opposite gender, you can proceed.

4
Fly the airship to the northern continent. Land near Chocobo Sage's house, which is in the mountains north of the Forgotten City. Enter the house and purchase 24 Sylkis Greens. On your way back to the ranch, stop by the area south of Icicle Inn. Fight some random battles here and steal three Carob Nuts from the Vlakrados enemies. Head back to the ranch and speak with ChocoBilly. Tell him you want to feed your chocobos. Feed one of your chocobos eight of the Sylkis Greens.
-
5
Head to Gold Saucer and enter the chocobo race. Choose to ride the chocobo that ate the Sylkis Greens. Win four races with this chocobo, then return to the ranch. Tell ChocoBilly that you wish to breed your chocobos. Use a Carob Nut for the breeding process and you will receive either a green or blue chocobo.
-
6
Exit the ranch and fight 10 random battles. Save your game, go back inside and speak with ChocoBilly. Breed your two "great" chocobos again using another Carob Nut. The goal here is to get the opposite color and gender of the chocobo you received the first time. For example, if you already have a blue female, you need to get a green male. Reset the game if necessary until you achieve the desired result.
-
7
Feed eight Sylkis Greens to the green and blue chocobos. Return to Gold Saucer and begin racing the new birds. Once you've amassed a combined nine wins between the blue and green chocobos, you can return to the chocobo ranch. Breed your blue and green chocobos with a Carob Nut and you will receive a black chocobo.

Tips & Warnings
To avoid confusion when breeding your chocobos, give them names that contain their color and gender, such as "GreatM" or "BlueF." Use the "soft reset" if you need to try something again. Hold "R1", "R2", "L1", "L2", "Select" and "Start" to perform a "soft reset." If you speak with the chocobo in Chocobo Sage's house, you'll receive an Enemy Skill materia. If ChocoBilly informs you that your chocobos aren't ready to breed, head outside and fight some random battles to advance the time.
