How to Unlock Johnny Cage in "Shaolin Monks" in 1-Player
To unlock Johnny Cage in "Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks" on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, you will need to play through the second level of the single-player campaign. This level is called the "Wu-Shi Academy," and you access it by playing through "Goro's Lair," the first level of the game. During the Academy level, you encounter the character Johnny Cage, and by helping him and collecting his koin, you gain access to his character during the multiplayer game modes.

Move through the level and defeat any enemies that cross your path. If you come to a barricade made of spiked balls, boulders or wooden structures, grab a nearby enemy and throw him into it to clear the path forward. Eventually you will encounter a pit of spikes. Jump to the clear platforms that are scattered through it in between bursts of fire. Cross the pit successfully to finish the first area.

Join Johnny Cage as he fights enemies. Help him defeat them, then follow him as he leads you through a tunnel. Johnny asks you to defend him while he opens a gate; defeat all the enemies to allow him to do so. Continue following Johnny to more gates. At each gate, defeat all the enemies before they can attack him and prevent him from opening the gate. Grab the sword by the last gate, then climb up the wall near the pond. Cut the ropes at the top. Descend to the ground and exit the area through the gate to your left.

Move forward and dodge any burning monks you encounter. Jump over the flames and approach the spinning object. Press "X" on the PS2 or "A" on the Xbox repeatedly to fill the meter. When the meter is full, press "L1" on the PS2 or the left shoulder button on the Xbox to put out the fire. Move forward and climb to the top of the Academy roof. Continue to the left and grab the koin collectable item to unlock Johnny Cage as a playable character.
