How to Aim With Peep Sights

How to Aim With Peep Sights thumbnail
Aiming peep sights properly increases the likelihood of hitting the target.

One kind of open rifle sight is the peep sight, which features a circular aperture known as a peep on top of the gun near the stock. The second part of a peep sight is a post near the end of the rifle. In terms of accuracy, peep sights offer more than regular open sights, but less than high-powered scopes. Once hunters and shooters are used to aiming with a peep, they can shoot very accurately.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the rifle butt against your shooting shoulder and hold your index finger near the trigger. Place your other hand near where the rifle stock and barrel connect.

Look through the peep with your dominant eye.

    • 3

Point the rifle at the target.

    • 4

Look through the peep and down the barrel of the gun so you see the post and target. Level the post on the target where you want to hit.
