How to Add Text to a Blank File on Photoshop Elements 6

Although Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 is primarily for modifying and enhancing the appearance of photographs, you may also use its type tool to add text to a photograph or a blank file, and create a simple online ad, sign or label. As you work with the "Type" tool, a tool bar will appear, which you may use to define the color and size of the type as well as its style. You may apply attributes such as bold or italic and text effects, too.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a new file to add text to if necessary. Select "File" from the main menu then choose "New" and "Blank File." Establish the size of the new file and enter a resolution of at least "300" dots per inch if you plan printing the text, or, "72" if the text will appear online only. Click "OK."

    • 2

Select the "Type" tool and click where you want the new text to begin. Photoshop Elements 6 creates a new layer for the text you will add. Choose "Window," then "Layers" to see the new layer if your layers palette isn't visible.

Use the toolbar that appears when the "Type" tool is active to modify the characteristics of your text, such as color, style and font size. Define how the text should look before adding text. Choose font characteristics that suit the purpose of the text, For example, text for a nature photo CD cover should have a natural color and organic shape.
