Collecting old postcards can be an interesting hobby, but it can be difficult to know the value of the postcards in your collection. Some vintage postcards are worth hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars, while others are barely worth more than the stamp needed to mail them. If you have an old postcard collection to sell, you need to assess the potential value of each card in your collection; then determine the best way to turn those old postcards into cash.

Go through your entire postcard collection and look for themes that could allow you to create sets you could sell together. For instance, you may have several postcards of national parks, or of famous people. It is sometimes easier to sell vintage postcards in sets based on a particular theme.

Open an eBay account if you do not already have one. Even if you do not ultimately choose to sell your postcards on the site, you can get valuable information about the current value of the postcards you have to sell.

Log on to your eBay account and do a search for the postcards in your collection. Use the Completed Listings check box to filter for auctions that have already ended. This is an excellent way to determine the current market value of the postcards in your collection. Be sure to look closely at the description of each completed auction, since the condition of the individual postcards could affect their value.

Visit local antique stores and ask for a value assessment of your postcard collection. It is best to get several competing estimates rather than relying on a single one.
